Amsterdam and the red light district!

On the cycle to journey into Amsterdam from the port we bumped into a man from Australia that was telling of us of all his cycle adventures in sweden and we also bumped into him again in the red light district ;) but if we believed half the stuff he was  coming out with that would be another story.

Amsterdam its self is a beautiful place, lovely boats on the canal and restaurants on the main canal and even little bed and breakfasts which was completely different.
Our first full day in Amsterdam we headed out to see the botanical gardens and I love green houses and I mean I have an intense love of them and they had quite a few at this one which of the oldest in the world. The hortus is its name and it was founded in 1638.
After this we made our way to the market place for a 1€ smoothie and then to the Anne Frank huis.

Unfortunately for us the queue was so big it wasnt worth the wait. But we know we can always come back and look.
After this we went to the red light district which I can honestly say is one of the most bizarre places ive ever been to. Women in windows and men leaning into doorways and then other men coming out of a room and getting as far away from the district as possible. Its just mental.

The next bizarre thing is the fact weed is legal over there. And the whole place reeks of it. People clearly not used to it stumbling around with grins on their faces. Was a real eye opener.

We liked the whole area so much we decided to stay an extra day (and Andrew wanted to see the red light district again) :)

We almost got to see the King and Queen to but had to leave in time for reception closing at zeeburg, my phone was still on charge in the building :(

The campsite had ducks, chickens and goats which all made sure we had no food lying around or slept too late in! Good job they were cute!

Andrews overall good points – girls in windows, burger king had a happy meal kind of deal for 2€, McDonald’s had a quick order system with a touch screen to order your meal, girls in windows, beautiful scenery, burgers in vending machines and girls in windows.

Andrews overall bad points – it is 50cents to go to the toilet in McDonald’s or burger king!, there are urinals in the street which overflow down the street and stink, not enough girls in windows…
